healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/06/01/hugging-dogs.aspxStory at-a-glance Lots of pet parents don't realize that many dogs don't like to be hugged — even their own Unlike humans, dogs aren't built for hugging; they're built for running, which they can't do while being hugged, and this can trigger discomfort and stress Some dogs seem to be fine with hugs; it's important to carefully observe the dogs you interact with to determine the types of touch they do and don't like When petting your dog, research suggests you should focus on the chest and shoulders, as well as the end of the spine just in front of the tail In all interactions with furry family members, it's important to pay attention to the impact we're having on them, as each is an individual My notes: We humans all love to hug our pets. Just be mindful if THEY want to receive that hug!

I never knew that about dogs!! I'm trying to remember which dogs never liked hugs and the ones that came to mind were hunting dogs. My daughter's bulldog loves all kinds of affection since she's a rescue.

Didn't realize some didn't care to be hugged. Yeah, humans need to be more mindful.

I like to keep my hen as hugging most time, but it feels uncomfortable and wants to free. This gives me an understand they don't feel to hug at all.
Thanks for your topic and had nice explanation also I will stop lifting my hen.

I don't really hug my cats. My one doesn't like to be picked up. The older one I can give a cuddle but she will let me know when she has had enough.

I hug my cat Gizmo from time to time, but not too often. I also pick him up and hug him every once in a while. I know not to do it too often, since he doesn't enjoy being picked up. I definitely agree though, be mindful to your pets and make sure you're not stressing them out.

Today my teacher kissed her dog’s forehead on zoom and I fell off my chair, squealing. It was too frickin cute, okay?!

Didn't realize some didn't care to be hugged. Yeah, humans need to be more mindful. Cats will freak out if you try. My experience anyway 😝

Cats will freak out if you try. My experience anyway 😝 We have a cat who likes to be hugged but we have to be aware of when he's in the mood or not. Most cats don't like even being held.

I never knew this, I don't currently have a dog but I always give one to my friends' pets. I'll usually give a small hug before giving them belly rubs and butt scratches, which they really enjoy

I don't think I would give any pet a hug, just pet them or give them scratches/belly rubs to make them happy. If they end up not liking it, they will get free one way or another lol.
